Selected Projects
Shown here are a few projects which show the focus and scope of the evolving practice.

A pair of apartment buildings In Glasgow
The scheme is a competition proposal for a vacant plot between buildings by the well known Glasgow Architect Alexander ‘Greek’Thomson, retaining routes and amenity in this triangular plot while adding six attractive apartments with varying aspects and long views. The roof top units have their own terrace and tall interior space under the rafters. The design is well suited to development using Cross Laminated Timber (CLT).
Long life, loose fit; a live/work house in Islington
This building has been a family house, a rented property and now a live/work studio with minimal adjustments over the years. A ‘broken plan’ of linked spaces from interior to the rear patio garden allows for different activities in proximity. Trade offs continue between conserving the listed building and energy saving measures.
Recent work has included increasing the planted area in the garden (‘grey to green infrastructure’), bathroom renewal, to improving storage and introducing a whole house decorative scheme. Furniture has been repurposed as the use of the house has evolved.
Prototype Live/ Work House
A shared entrance with a generous atrium separates working areas and business visitors from family life. The building prototype sits under one roof and can be developed using Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) construction and be highly insulated and air sealed to meet Passivhaus standards. The exterior cladding is of charred timber to give a warm and well treated finish with a distinctive but traditional appearance. The building can be designed to meet Net Zero targets involving both operational and embodied energy.
The lower front space could become a granny flat if needed in the future.
Co-working Space within University of London’s Bloomsbury campus
New co-working spaces bridge the gap between the University and the City in more ways than one. The building form redefines the space of both the truncated square and the incomplete set of Lasdun’s University buildings.
A timber post and beam construction supports CLT floor slabs and a pitched northlight roof above. Set back terraces overlook the University podium entrance and the greenery and proportion of Woburn Square.
Luxury Villas in Nusa Dua, Bali
Originally part of an extensive villa and spa resort these villas are now the suites of the Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort. Conceived as honeymoon villas, the bedroom suite opens onto a plunge pool in a walled garden with a shaded dining pavilion alongside. Working within local traditions, stone walls , alang-alang (thatch) roof and timber framing complement the rich tropical planting.
Working with established practices and institutions
The majority of my career has been with established practices. Projects are larger in scale and curated under the heading Healthy Buildings and Cities. A copy of my expanded portfolio (see thumbnail) is available upon request.
